Description
What? Hands-On Junior Paleontology Experience for kids ages 5-11.
Includes an extensive tour of the museum, even the parts normally inaccessible to visitors, guided by our Director of Paleontology. Kids will learn about what goes on behind the scenes at museum, as well as what it’s like to be a paleontologist!
They will learn to identify fossils, and sort through screen-washed sediment and look for microfossils or take a trip out into the field and look for fossils just like a paleontologist!*
*Minimum of three children required for field option
When? Available May – September, M-F, by appointment only. 2-3 hour program.
Cost? $100 per child, Plus a small credit card fee to purchase online.
No additional cost for parents or guardians.

Safety and supervision are priorities. Youth participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during our field experience. 911 and emergency services are available to the area. GPDM carries a simple first aid kit. This program is held on private property and all participants must be respectful and the land and its owners.
Field Site Visits – Minimum of 3 children.
Transportation to field site is your responsibility – driver and vehicle must be capable of driving on rural road. GPDM staff will meet participants for a prompt 9AM departure from the GPDM (back door please) and all parties will travel in a group. Normal travel time is 30 minutes. We will return to Malta to allow lunch on your own and to start the afternoon session at 1:30pm. GPDM has a picnic table and is adjacent to Trafton Walking Trail if you care to picnic onsite.
Physical Requirements: Field location requires ability to walk and climb steep hills and prairie terrain.
What to bring: Personal items including: long pants, sunscreen, wide brimmed hat, sunglasses, hiking boots or good walking shoes, medications if needed, simple snack and water.

Tools or Equipment (we will provide what you need.)
No pets, firearms or weapons outside of your personal vehicle.
Reservations: Advance reservations are required. We also require a minimum of 3 participants each day. We will make every effort to accommodate your visit but please know our capacity is 6 participants (maximum of 12 people per day) to insure the quality of the experience for all. Please contact us ASAP with your tentative dates.
Payment: Fees must be paid with 3 days of confirming your reservation. Please pay via our website online payment (plus small transaction fee) or mail a check to GPDM at PO Box 170, Malta, MT. 59538
Cancellation Policy: Fees are NOT refundable for your cancellation or inability to participate unless you contact us directly 10 days before your reservation date. If roads are impassible or severe storm warnings are in effect, we will conduct programs within the museum and offer a partial refund.
